Running Out of Excuses to Create Your 3D Avatar

V+R Challenge for Sports Without Borders

The score: 329 virtual kilometers vs. 3,059 real ones.

Uh, HELLO!

While Philippe Fuchs has been running his heart out (already in Russia now after only having left Paris on March 7), the virtual leg of the V+R Challenge is dragging.

Do you really want to wait until after Philippe makes it to the Beijing Olympics to then say, “Darn, I should’ve submitted my virtual run!”?

Because it will be too late when he makes it to the Bird’s Nest.

Well I’ve got great news for you! IF you haven’t submitted your run because:

a) You don’t have or want a Facebook account, or
b) You can’t seem to place your hands on your digital camera . . .

you can still participate!

The V+R development team has been busy trying to make it even easier for you to create your 3D avatar and start running.

Concerning point A:
Now you can submit your virtual run directly on the V+R Challenge website. You totally bypass Facebook, but you won’t be able to build a relay team. No Facebook =s you run alone.

About point B:
All you need is a webcam to generate your 3D-head photos. You don’t even have to leave your seat to dig up your digital camera or borrow someone else’s. This feature applies to both the V+R Challenge and Facebook virtual run submit interfaces.

Ok, so this isn’t as easy as playing Hot Potato, but remember the obnoxious cliché, “no pain, no gain”. Even with the new 3D avatar features, you’ll still have to do a tiny bit of work to get your avatar running. However, it will not only be fun, it will lead to a charitable contribution.

Don’t forget that for every virtual mile submitted, Sports Without Borders gets 1€ to support programs for children.

Sports are not just about having fun at your computer through a fantasy league, or getting a good workout at the track. As Benoît Muller from Sports Without Borders said, “sports can serve as a therapeutic and educational tool and as a foundation of personal development for troubled youths.”

This is the goal of Sports Without Borders, and this is what you’ll be supporting by submitting your virtual run.

And just in case you’re still hesitating or feeling lazy, think about what Philippe Fuchs said in an email to the V+R team weeks ago:

“I’m doing the hard part by running from Paris to Beijing. Creating your virtual run is much easier; you have no excuse!”
